A State level campaign against Gender Based Violence (GBV) in Rajasthan would be launched in Jaipur from April 22, 2017 to raise awareness and amplify efforts and voice for exemplary solution ensuring access to justice for women and girls.
An international organization Save the Children in partnership with themedia base advocacy organization Lok Samvad Sansthan and Centre for Mass Communication, University of Rajasthan are jointly organizing “Political Conclave” as part of the campaign. This political conclave is meant to be participated by people’s representatives from all political parties-preferably MPs, MLAs,chairpersons of Zila Parishad, Panchayat Raj representatives along with academics,NGOs ,gender based activists and media.
Smt Anita Bhadel Minister of Women and Child, Government of Rajasthan would inaugurate this campaign and Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Member of Parliament, Beti Bacho Beti Phadobrand ambassodor of Rajasthan Ms Prices Diya kumari ould be guest of honour. Shri Kailsh Meghwal, and Speaker of the state assembly has urged all the stakeholders to support this campaign.
Sanjay Sharma, State Manager-Save the Children told media persons that the campaign on GBV would largely focus on Child Marriage and Sex Selection Abortions in Rajasthan. It’s a part of Save the Children’s Multi State – Hariyana, Punjab, UP and Rajasthan campaign focusing on different state specific GBV issues. In Rajasthan Alwar and Banswara district level campaign through events and awareness and in Jodhpur and Tonk , district level sensitization of officials would be undertaken.
He said that the save the Children, India is implementing a project on Gender Based Violence in the States of Rajasthan, Punjab, Hariyana and Uttar Pradesh focusing on are :sex selective abortion/female feticide and abandonment, early and forced marriage, marriage related physical and sexual abuse, dowry deaths, domestic violence and on girl child exclusion.”The project intends to leverage government initiatives around women empowerment, girl child education, child marriage etc”, he added.
Sanjay Sharma further added that on the basis through different models of interventions, a proposal to use Nirbhaya Fund effectively would be submitted to the Government.
